Where is an economical place for a single young professional to live?

Question by Gypsy Dancer: Where is an economical place for a single young professional to live?
I’m single w/ no kids and I enjoy a city lifestyle. Where is the most economical place for me to live that would be a good place for singles in their late 20s and 30s? I’d be looking for an apartment that is very affordable and in a convenient location. Size of the apartment does not matter, I don’t have any pets.

Charlotte NC. You got the big city living with a southern spin there, a big airport, clubs, and a booming suburb…I’m a “dating” young professional with no kids and that’s where I’m heading.

The cost of living can, as you know, vary dramatically from place to place. You might try the website: http://www.bestplaces.net. Not only will you be given an idea of relative housing costs and income, but this site rates other factors as well, such as crime rate, culture and schools. Another site to check is http://www.jobmarket.nytimes.com. It gives you tools to compare costs and pay in various U.S. cities. When you narrow your search, it would be good to take a trip to your top 2 or 3 cities to get your impression, or “feel” of the place – something you can’t learn online. I hope you find just what you are looking for!
